Dronedeploy is a drone mapping software platform that works with any drone equipped with GPS capability. Once you download the free app to your mobile device, select the map area and watch as the drone flies 100% autonomously at scheduled intervals, taking high resolution photos of the designated area. This data is then uploaded to the dronedeploy website where it is automatically meshed into a 3D map or model.
The resulting maps are extremely accurate, providing an RMSE (root mean square error) of
In addition to mapping, the dronedeploy software allows you to capture a variety of other types of imagery. You can also take videos using your drone, and create a virtual tour of the job site in 360-degrees. You can even conduct a virtual walkthrough of the project and share it with team members remotely.
Last year, customers on the dronedeploy platform did 1.5 million flights. And while many of those were mapping missions, users also captured photos, videos, and 360-degree panoramic inspections.
This year, dronedeploy has added new products to help further support its mission of transforming how businesses collect and interpret drone data. VP of Product James Pipe explained that “these new products are a big part of what we are bringing to the market to enable a more efficient way to collect and manage drone data.”
The first is a drone mapping software platform called DroneDeploy that works with any drone equipped with GPS capability. The platform is very easy to use, with intuitive graphical user interfaces and a wide range of graphical outputs. The software can be used to create 2D maps, 3D models, and photogrammetry models. In addition, the software can be used to collect thermal imagery, measure distances, and generate reports and analytics.
Another product is called DroneAssist, which provides flight automation for DJI drones. This is a very handy feature for anyone who needs to fly a drone automatically, but doesn’t have much experience with flying or programming. The software enables users to trace the boundary of the area they want mapped, and the drone will automatically fly the route, take off and land, and then automatically upload the results to the cloud.
The dronedeploy API allows users to seamlessly integrate drone mapping data with their other business applications. Viewpoint, for example, has recently partnered with dronedeploy to allow its users to publish drone-generated site maps directly into the project management application via a newly incorporated app. The integration, which was introduced to the public at the company’s Collaborate 2017 user conference in October, gives project teams a single location where they can access and view critical site information, including maps. This helps contractors improve their project planning, collaboration and communication.
