United States Military Plans to Shoot Down emerging Drones

The Drone Killer is a mini UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) that can be remotely operated and has the ability to autonomously locate and shoot down nearly any type of remotely piloted vehicle, including small Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, or UAVs, such as small UAVs for research, surveillance, weather observation or military applications. The UAVs can fly in all seasons, day or night and at different heights above ground level. This means that the user can move around the area quickly and have more control during daytime operations than at night. The UAVs can operate in virtually any terrain, and can even move over dirt and gravel to get a more detailed image.

The UAVs can be remotely operated through a handheld device or a computer. The Drone Killer is specifically designed to resemble a regular bullpup gun, so as to appear like a regular shotgun. It is the only fully autonomous handheld device which uses advanced software-based radio technologies to target and effect class 1 and class 2 small unmanned aerial vehicles without the use of traditional broadband internet.

The UAVs operated by the Drone Killer are similar to those used by military and para-military units in that they are both fully automatic, with full automatic firing and can remain in the air up to twelve hours continuously without recharging. They are also fully robotic, and have the ability to remain stationary for long periods of time. In addition to their long flight time, these UAVs are also capable of engaging multiple targets with excellent accuracy. The Drone Killer is effective against both UAVs and other small UAVs including helicopters, small planes, balloons, and light aircraft.

Currently the UAVs fitted to the Drone Killer are being upgraded to accommodate future weapon systems. However, until such time, there are several counter-UAS technologies in development by Bell Helicopters and Dynamics eXplorer for use with the Drone Killer. Most notable is the Bell Helicopters Black Widow UAV, which has the ability to shoot down surface-to-air missiles and enemy combatants. Additionally, this UAV has the ability to engage enemy fighter aircraft using its radar, while conducting a ground attack or self-healing counter-burst capability.

The United States Air Force and United States Army are both investing in the development of counter-drone technologies to prevent the enemy from using UAVs against our troops and to prevent the enemy from using the UAVs to strike our troops. Currently the United States Army’s Research and Development wing is looking at how to counter UAVs with Anti-aircraft guns. Currently the United States Navy’s Underwater School of Military Science is working on developing anti-ship UAVs to counter the smaller UAVs. Last year we saw the United States Army invest in its own version of a swarm of small UAVs to protect convoys. These are only some of the types of technologies that are being developed to counter UAVs, which poses a serious threat to the American People and our troops.

Currently the Chinese are developing their own versions of a swarming UAV to defend China against a possible attack. If North Korea gets on a roll they might also develop their own smaller UAVs to protect themselves from an impending attack. In fact, if North Korea is ever attacked, especially with a nuclear device on a U.S. ship near China, then many will be dead and China will suffer the repercussions. We cannot allow the Chinese to have a nuclear weapon and we certainly cannot allow North Korea to get one. Therefore the best course of action for the United States will be developing our own anti-aircraft guns to shoot down any incoming Chinese UAVs that may come into range. This will ensure that they cannot shoot down our own UAVs and it will allow the Americans to shoot down any incoming Chinese weapons when they shoot these down.
